Oxford Region Girtonians

Past Events

The ORG was 25 years old in 2018 and we felt that was worth celebrating. Members and guests gathered on Wednesday 22nd August in the delightful garden of Margaret Pinsent, our Membership Secretary, for drinks and nibbles.

The photo shows Margaret receiving a "thank you" bouquet from Juliet Campbell.

Our 2018 Spring Meeting was held on Saturday 17th March at Oxford High School. We had a talk from our own Juliet Campbell on membership of the EU - going back to her recollections when she was in the Diplomatic Service during the very first negotiations for membership - often referred to as the period when "The General Says No".

Since then we've had our Autumn Meeting and Winter Lunch. The Autumn Meeting started with the AGM and continued with a fascinating talk from Peter Sparks - past Director of Studies in Architecture and Domestic Bursar at Girton.  This was entitled “Between Two Cricket Tables - learning Girton through architecture and artefacts” and helped us learn a lot more about the treasures Girton holds, from silver to furniture to carpets to .... The lunch was a delicious meal at The Boat Inn, Thrupp, which was enjoyed by all.
